About the role
As Product Test Lab Team Leader, you will be responsible for ensuring the lab meets all vital requirements and quality controls while keeping the team fully trained. The position involves assisting in developing new test procedures, processes, and equipment to enhance lab capabilities. It includes communicating project reports, updates, and anomalies to core teams, leading project testing requirements, scheduling, and resource needs. Additionally, it supports BD departments worldwide with testing, product and lab related queries. Team leader will also assist in implementing and maintaining the Quality Management System (QMS). The role will also support critical business projects, BD global initiatives like test method validation, Inspire Quality and contributes to documentation creation to support BD's operational needs. This position will report directly to the Test Lab Manager and will require maintaining excellent communication to ensure optimum Laboratory efficiency and immediately raising concerns or issues
Main responsibilities will include:
- Estimate resource requirements based on the projected product test lab requests and escalate to manager, schedule the activities accordingly
- Assign test requests, based on business priorities and experience of product test lab technicians, ensuring that resources are adequate and fit for the required purpose.
- Responsible for the orientation and training of new employees, regarding equipment to be used, including Health and Safety. Identifying BD required training, and providing additional training requirements for new and existing technicians as deemed necessary.
- Supervise/ support lab technicians in carrying out various formal product testing for new and existing products, product iterations and associated disposable products; testing will be undertaken following established company test procedures, work instructions to agreed timescales.
- Liaising with and reporting to the test requestors regarding lab test results and ensuring any issues during testing are notified accordingly. Ensuring all test data is correctly identified and stored in the correct electronic location once verified and approved.
- Communicate any anomalies with regard to the test objects or results to the Test Lab Manager/ Leadership in timely manner.
- Ensure the general upkeep of the laboratory meets the necessary regulatory requirements and that all quality controls are adhered to, and that Lab users are continually fully trained.
- Assist with the development of new test procedures and equipment to enhance the capabilities of the Product Test Lab.
- Assists in establishing, implementing, and maintaining the Quality Management System (QMS)
- Attending and/ or contributing in PTL related meetings.
- Ensure the laboratory equipment is fully qualified as per the global BD procedures and site requirements in place.
- supports the introduction and compliance of BD global initiatives such as test method validation and Inspire Quality.
- Authoring and assisting in creating documentation, operational specifications, work order documents and spreadsheet data templates to support the needs of BD.
- Support cross functional team, other Business units with advice, expertise and administration if required.
About you
- Experience in managing/ supervising a team in the laboratory environment.
- Experience with commonly used PC applications- strong familiarity with Excel is advisable.
- Good level of numeracy and written communication with the ability to read and interpret documentation in English
- Some experience working to quality/ISO procedures (not essential, but beneficial)
- Laboratory experience in a medical or engineering capacity
- A degree or equivalent experience in Biological or Engineering sciences is preferred.
- Methodical and organised with excellent attention to detail and the ability to keep a fast pace and change priorities when required.
- Quick and creative problem-solving.
- Self-motivated and able to encourage and motivate a team
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Knowledge and understanding of medical devices and their use
