Production Material Handler

Summary of Position

Perform all activities related to material receipt, processing, storage and shipment at a manufacturing site.   Responsible for ensuring timely and accurate movement of materials throughout the manufacturing process.   Will be responsible for training other personnel in these duties as required.

Responsibilities
1. Receive oral and/or written instructions from Supervisor and/or lead person.
2. Lift raw materials and/or finished product weighing up to 50 pounds from trucks using appropriate lifting devices (i.e., pallet jack, hoist).  
3. Place materials in proper storage areas.  
4. Pick and pack orders for shipment.  
5. Prepare bills of lading and complete paperwork including but not limited to shipping documents, packing lists, customs forms, insurance certificates, etc.  
6. Communicate with freight forwarders, carriers, brokers, warehouses, etc.  
7. Record transactions on computer terminal or handwritten log.  
8. Maintain adequate inventory levels and accuracy of inventory records.  
9. Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
To perform this job successfully, individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability necessary to perform the job at acceptable standards.

Education and/or Experience

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred or equivalent experience

  • Minimum of 6 months manufacturing or warehouse experience

  • On-the-job training will be required (willing to complete one month on-the-job training period)

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Computer Literacy required

  • Proficiency with SAP and Apriso desired

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, etc. preferred

  • Willing & able to train and certify on a forklift

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and/or technical drawing preferred

  • Knowledge of good manufacturing practices and FDA regulations.  


Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, controls, and office equipment. The employee occasionally is required to reach with hands and arms and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment
The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee could be exposed to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate but may be high in production areas. Temperatures may vary depending on area of operation.

Work Environment:

  • BD is a smoke-free campus.  Smoking and the use of electronic smoking devices, marijuana, or tobacco products are not allowed on BD property, grounds or in the parking areas.  We appreciate your cooperation in adhering to this policy

  • False eyelashes, press-on fingernails, and Jewelry is not allowed on the production floor including dermals.  Any associate wearing dermals will be required to cover them while working on the production floor. 

  • Shoes are required to be Steel Toe and non-slip for all associates while on the production floor for safety purposes.
