Equipment Specialist (Day) Packaging

Job Description Summary

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operates multiple processes on or around high speed automated or semi-automated manufacturing equipment.

Participates in equipment changeovers or set-ups.

Monitors assigned processes to ensure high quality production

Drives to meet or exceed all expected line/zone performance through supporting an open line of communication to ensure all problems/changes are communicated and resolved in a timely manner.

Removes defective product from the automated or semi-automated processes.

Maintains accurate records and documents as required.

Continuously improves through the Kaizen Action Sheet (KAS) program

Produces high quality products manufactured per task documents

Complies with all local, state, federal, and BD safety & quality regulations, policies, procedures including RCRA Hazardous Waste regulations, and practices through consistent application of sound quality assurance principles.

Quality- Determines the cause of quality problems and take appropriate action per our quality procedures.

Continuous Improvement/Delivery- Actively participates in Continuous Improvement teams and activities, including lean manufacturing, 5S, blitzes, Shift Start-up, updating PVD boards, etc. Meets or exceeds department KAS completion goals

5S- Maintains equipment and an organized clean area by performing tasks such as sweeping, mopping, and wiping down equipment.

Required Competencies/Skills:

Must be able to read & write in written English and communicate in verbal English

Can effectively work in a team setting and communicate effectively across the department

Punctual and accountable for attendance in accordance with company policies to ensure production

Ability to work on assignments that are semi-routine in nature with the skill to recognize any deviations from specification

Ability to operate independently within the constraints of approved process-related documentation

Ability analyze/evaluate charts, follow simple diagrams and perform basic arithmetic

Basic proficiency with PCs (Personal Computers) and basic use of a Windows environment

Work Environment & Essential Physical Functions:

This position is in a clean room or laboratory manufacturing environment and the physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an incumbent to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

Bending, stooping and reaching are also frequently required.

While performing this job, the employee is regularly exposed to episodes of walking, kneeling, balancing, crouching, pushing/pulling, repetitive grasping, hearing, twisting, lifting, frequent use of hand to finger, handle, feel, pick or type which can include repetitive motion of the wrists, hands or fingers. The incumbent may occasionally be required to climb. The incumbent may occasionally be required to lift to 20 lbs., frequently lift up to 10 lbs., occasionally pulling/pushing up to 30 lbs., frequently pushing/pulling up to 10 lbs., frequently carry up to 5 lbs.

The position will almost always have exposure to work near moving mechanical equipment, and potential temperature fluctuations. Occasionally the position will have exposure to fumes, airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, cleaning compounds and solvents. The incumbent may be exposed to noise levels in the work environment moderate to loud.

Employees must have normal field of vision corrected to 20/40 in each eye and must have hearing sufficient to safely operate material handling equipment in a manufacturing/distribution environment. The incumbent must be willing and able to wear required PPE such as, safety glasses, face mask and/or shield, hearing protection, safety shoes, hair and beard net and smock.

Summary:
The Equipment Specialist performs service work on infusion pumps and related equipment, maintains appropriate documentation for services performed, ensures effective communication with customers and clinical staff, and assists in achieving departmental financial goals through efficient performance of assigned tasks. The position serves as a resource to sales representatives, clinicians, and customers regarding product applications and basic troubleshooting procedures. The position supports compliance with all regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Performs preventative maintenance inspections on rental equipment

  • Assembles equipment according to manufacturer’s specifications

  • Performs routine maintenance checks on customer owned equipment

  • Determines the condition of equipment returned from rental agreements

  • Responds to calls from customers reporting equipment malfunctions

  • Keeps up-to-date records on customer equipment

  • Schedules pick-up and delivery of equipment

  • Generates reports reflecting monthly activities

  • Requires basic knowledge of standards and processes within own area and basic knowledge of other areas

  • Demonstrates an understanding of how their role contributes to the team and organization

  • Builds professional relationships with others by communicating information effectively, establishing trust, being empathetic, sharing ideas/knowledge, and resolving conflicts directly

  • Maintains appropriate documentation and meets established deadlines

  • Works safely, adheres to organizational policies and procedures, and takes responsibility for personal actions and decisions

  • Initiates and participates in programs to improve safety, quality, efficiency, and effectiveness of patient care and business operations


Qualifications:

  • High School Degree or GED preferred

  • Previous medical device repair experience preferred

  • Customer Service Experience preferred

  • Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Applications

  • Ability to read blueprints

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Basic mechanical aptitude

  • Problem solving skills

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Time management skills

  • Self-motivated

  • Attention to detail
