Position Summary 

The Medication Management Systems organization within BD, has a need for a Systems Engineer to assist in the development and qualification of a new product within the Pouch packaging and inspection portfolio team. This opportunity will provide a fulfilling experience in the development lifecycle of a complicated system which comprises of large electromechanical components, communication networks, user interfaces and accompanying software systems. This role will be operating within a diverse team of multi-disciplined engineers, product owners, and other interfaces.

Key responsibilities

The intern will join the Systems Engineering team for the Pouch and Inspection portfolio. In order to succeed, the intern will learn to operate multiple electro-mechanical systems, including the Parata ATP, Parata PASS, and Parata Perl – along with additional systems not yet released to market. The intern will:

  • Contribute to system verification and validation activities including test protocol writing, execution and reporting.
  • Support root cause investigations and data generation to aid teams in troubleshooting customer issues in the field
  • Collect, record, analyze, interpret, report, and present results to cross functional colleagues and leaders.
  • Contribute to the transition from R&D to manufacturing/service and supports system troubleshooting activities for products in the field.
  • Learn and adopt BD development practices for the assigned tasks.

Professional Skills & Key Competencies

  • Engineering test protocol writing, execution, data analysis, and report writing
  • Preference for completed coursework in several of the following: physics, probability and/or statistics, foundations of electrical and computer engineering, quality management systems for engineers, and/or embedded & controls systems.
  • Must show attention to detail and is meticulous about work documentation.
  • Excellent written and oral communication and interpersonal skills are essential.
  • Extremely organized and highly motivated.

Education Qualifications & Previous Experience:

  • Rising Junior or Senior in Engineering in a Bachelor’s or Master’s program, preferably with an Electrical, Computer, Systems or Biomedical engineering background.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work within a diverse team.

Desired/Additional Skills & Knowledge:

  • Experience working in a pharmacy environment (retail, hospital, mail order, central fill, etc)
  • Familiarity with systems engineering processes and/or training in engineering tools such as Design for Six Sigma
  • Experience with embedded firmware and/or electromechanical control systems
  • Experience with scripting/tooling application development
